Supporting the learning of French in Madagascar

Description of the accommodation facility:

The association SOS MADAGASCAR established in 1991, its general objective is to provide assistance to victims of the poverty that prevails in Madagascar.

More specifically, the association supports a structure which was originally only an orphanage and which over the years has developed a nursery and primary school open to underprivileged children in the neighborhood where it is located.

Goals :

The mission aims to contribute to the success of all students by supporting them both during and outside of school hours. It is part of the promotion of the French language and culture and supports the learning of French abroad.

The volunteer collaborates with teaching teams to implement and monitor educational projects that promote socialization, autonomy and the development of students' skills.

The mission:

• Participation in the implementation of multidisciplinary, cultural or sporting projects.
• Working in coordination with teachers and the management team.
• Facilitating or co-facilitating games, workshops, songs and group activities.
• Participation in key school events: outings, themed days, tournaments, end-of-year celebration.
• Support for students experiencing learning difficulties.
• Teacher assistance during class time.
• Participation and support in extracurricular activities (art workshops, sports, etc.).

Expected qualities:

• Team spirit and ability to work collaboratively.
• Interest in children and a sense of listening, empathy, kindness.
• Ability to adapt to different environments and situations
• Sense of organization and autonomy in assigned tasks.

Conditions for welcoming and monitoring the volunteer:

• Initial training organized by La Guilde
• Training organized by SOS MADAGASCAR before departure (Videoconference)
• Support from the project coordinator at the SOS MADAGASCAR association and the tutor at the host organization throughout the mission
• Shared reflection with the volunteer on a future project (Monthly, quarterly review and summary at the end of the mission).
