Mission context

V-Francophonie

This volunteer mission is part of the United Volunteers for the Francophonie (V-Francophonie) program, implemented by France Volontaires and funded by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE), in partnership with the International Organisation of the Francophonie (OIF). It enables the deployment of 100 International Solidarity Volunteers (VSI) to support initiatives within the Francophonie framework in more than 15 member countries of the French-speaking world, including Benin, Cambodia, Cameroon, Costa Rica, Egypt, France, Ghana, Madagascar, Morocco, Mauritania, Mexico, Rwanda, Senegal, Togo, Tunisia, and Vanuatu.

It was announced at the 19th Francophonie Summit, hosted by France in October 2024, and aims to increase and raise the profile of international volunteering opportunities within the Francophone world. The program is intended to:

  • Facilitating and developing international mobility within the Francophone space, in North/South, South/North and South/South directions, originating from the Francophone space; ;
  • Encouraging civic engagement among Francophone youth; ;
  • To make initiatives supporting international volunteering in the Francophone world more readable and visible; ;
  • To unite a community of actors (state, interstate, non-governmental) of volunteering within the Francophone space.

This mission falls under the umbrella of the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) and the "Entrepreneurship in French" initiative. The volunteer will contribute to structuring a project where the French language serves as a vehicle for knowledge transfer, skills development, and social entrepreneurship. By supporting this inclusive model, the mission promotes economic empowerment and the influence of the Francophonie as a space for sustainable development and social justice.

The association

Ftartchi, initiated by the AHeritage for the Solidarity Economy Association (APES), is a Tunisian project dedicated to social and economic innovation through gastronomy. Since its creation in May 2018, it has transformed into a true model of collaborative economy, with Ftartchi Le Traiteur and Ftartchi L'Atelier.

We offer training and employment opportunities to housewives and young people seeking opportunities, thereby valuing local talent.

Project description

The volunteer will be integrated into the "Ftartchi? – The Workshop" project, an initiative led by APES aimed at strengthening the social impact and socio-economic integration of vulnerable populations. The project primarily targets women in precarious situations and NEET youth (not in employment, education, or training).

The central objective is to promote professional integration through cooking, drawing on the richness of Tunisian and international gastronomy. At the heart of the project is a cooking workshop operating as a social enterprise, combining vocational training and catering services.

Participants follow a six-month program combining technical training, practical experience, and soft skills development. Upon completion, they receive support in finding salaried employment or launching culinary businesses (e.g., private chefs). The workshop aims for self-financing through the sale of its products, ensuring the project's sustainability and the recognition of the learners' skills.
