1001fontaines is a French non-profit organization that develops and deploys innovative solutions to
expand access to safe drinking water. For more than 20 years, we have addressed the needs of vulnerable communities by providing resilient water purification infrastructure and affordable, practical services, centered on the distribution of reusable 20-liter water containers. Operating in four countries (Cambodia, Vietnam, Madagascar, and Bangladesh), we have enabled more
than one million people to access safe drinking water.

Mission Context:

In Tamatave, the social enterprise Colab SARL manages the facilities designed by 1001fontaines in partnership with its NGO partner Ranontsika. The system includes a water treatment plant, a network of sales kiosks, and a water quality laboratory.
With growing demand for safe drinking water, we are strengthening our technical team with a volunteer engineer who brings strong technical expertise and practical operational skills. This role will support process improvement, quality monitoring, and the further development of infrastructure.

Reporting to the Director and working closely with the Operations Manager, with support from the 1001fontaines team, the VSI volunteer will contribute to the technical development of the service, ensuring operational performance, safety of facilities and teams, and control of environmental impacts.

1. Improving and adapting infrastructure

• Contribute to technical assessments of the treatment facility and equipment in line with future needs (capacity, safety, reliability)
• Support the design or reorganization of installations (treatment processes, storage, flow management)
• Identify and implement technical solutions to improve productivity, safety, and ergonomics
• Monitor works and pilot testing with local teams and external partners

2. Quality, safety, and environmental performance

• Oversee sanitary quality of treated water, interpret results, and support corrective actions
• Update and ensure application of standard operating procedures (SOPs)
• Contribute to occupational risk prevention: hazard identification, action planning, equipment selection, training
• Regulatory compliance support for QHSE (audits, permits, technical monitoring)
• Assist with wastewater and solid waste management systems

3. Supporting technical teams

• Provide daily support to production, maintenance, and logistics teams
• Develop short training modules and simple monitoring tools to build team skills and autonomy
• Contribute to developing an internal QHSE policy and encourage continuous improvement

4. Operational performance monitoring

• Support the development and improvement of monitoring tools: dashboards, indicators, issue reporting
• Help analyze data to inform decisions on maintenance, investments, or logistics
• Contribute to preparing activity reports for internal and external use (audits, project reporting, etc.)
